NEW DELHI, Sept 24: Pehchan, an NGO, is an initiative of a group of media professionals and was founded by D S Mendhiratta with the central objective of nurturing the girl child and empowering women through education.
Pehchan organised the 7th Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Awards evening at India Habitat Centre to honour the achievers from different sections of society. Pehchan strongly believe that the pen is mightier than the sword, and that a girl’s biggest armour against all the hardships is empowerment. And empowerment and education go hand in hand. With this goal in mind, Pehchan strives to provide a strong foundation in the form of education and support to girls and uneducated women.
Since our Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was a sincere supporter of the girl child, these awards have been instituted in his name to honour and cherish his fond memory. It is his name that guides us each day at Pehchan. Through these Awards we wish to honour every year and reward the hard work and outstanding performance of the achievers in the society.
These awards, year after year, will identify and honour outstanding personalities who have created a niche for themselves in the society and inspire others to follow suit.
