Party to assuage feelings of Pandits: Dr Kamaal

JAMMU, Jan 18: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former Minister, Dr Mustafa Kamaal today assured a delegation of NC Minority Cell representatives that the memorandum submitted by them will be sent to Party president Dr Farooq Abdullah and its working president and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for consideration and finding a via media to accommodate one representative of the community in the Government on a responsible position to become a bridge between the minority Pandits, administration and the Government so that the day today problems of KPs are redressed effectively and quickly.
Dr Kamaal while going through the memorandum submitted by the delegation led by M K Yogi working president of the Cell said that he respects the sentiments of the community for non inclusion of KP representative in the Cabinet but the same was not possible due to fractured mandate of the people in 2008 elections and the limitations of the size of the Council of Ministers as per the directives of Apex Court of the country which was subsequently cleared by Parliament and State Legislature.
The delegation expressed resentment for not considering any representative from the community for a Cabinet berth in recent reshuffle despite the fact that the community had high expectations about the same.
The delegation also said that the community was given oft -repeated assurance by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Party president Dr Farooq Abdullah that representation to one member of the community will be given in Council of Ministers.
The delegation also brought in the notice of Dr Kamaal that the consumers of Lower Barnai are facing embarrassing situation in collecting the LPG cylinders as they have to first deposit money at Talab Tillo and then collect the cylinders at Shakti Nagar to take the same to Lower Barnai. In this entire process they have to spend Rs 300 extra for collecting one LPG cylinder. It demanded that home delivery system should be restored immediately.
Later the delegation also called on Devender Singh Rana, Provincial president of the Party and expressed concern over not giving representation to KPs in the Council of Ministers which was expanded recently.
The delegation said late Sher-e-Kahsmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah set precedence and it was carried forward by Dr Abdullah also later but it is for the first time when the community remained un represented in council of ministers. Som Nath Dhar, A K Raina, Jiganji Goja, P L Talashi, Mohan Lal Pandita, Shiban Ji Raina, Mohan Lal Kaul, Kuldeep Pandita and Nana Ji ex Sarpanch were the part of the delegation.
