JAMMU, Jan 18: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), organised an exposure visit for Block Level Bankers Committee (BLBC) of Vijaypur block to Self Help Groups (SHG) at village Barian.
The exposure visit was organised by District Development Manager of NABARD, district Samba, Surinder Singh, who apprised the BLBC members about the importance of Self Help Groups in empowerment of rural women.
While introducing the concept of SHG, it was discussed that despite increased banking network in rural and semi-urban areas, many of the small farmers, agriculture labour and rural women were still dependent on the private money lenders for their petty credit needs.
Mahesh Gupta, Director R-SETI, in his address, said that R-SETI organizes training programmes for Self Help Groups and provides technical input to beneficiaries to set up their income generating units.
Raghubir Singh from RBI appraised the role of NABARD in the SHG-Bank linkage programme and urged upon the bankers to credit link more and more SHGs.
V K Vali, Lead Bank Officer, expressed his gratitutdes towards NABARD for organizing the exposure visit.
