NEW DELHI, July 21: Seeking dismissal of the PDP-BJP Government, imposition of Governor’s rule and highlighting several other demands, National Panthers Party activists tried to take out a march towards Parliament, here today, under the leadership of Prof Bhim Singh.
As the Police did not allow the protesting Panthers to march towards Parliament, they courted arrest and were taken to Parliament Street Police Station. A few Panthers Party activist also sustained minor injuries during the clash with Police, claimed a handout by the party while disclosing their identity as Surjit Singh Guleria, Romesh Khajuria, Balwinder Khosla, A J Rajan and Mehfooz Khan.
The Panthers activist were marching towards the Parliament for submission of a memorandum to the President of India seeking his intervention for security and interest of Jammu Kashmir State.
As per the memorandum, the President was urged to amend Article 370 for powering Parliament of India to legislate on J&K. Article 35(A) is obnoxious, criminal attempt to sabotage national interest and has been introduced in the violation of Article 370 itself, the memorandum explained and appealed the President of India to scrap this controversial Article 35(A), amend Article 370 and authorize Governor of J&K to invoke section 92 of J&K Constitution.
“The Governor should dismiss the present Assembly, promulgate Governor Rule and go for fresh elections to the Assembly so that free and fair polls may be held to give democracy and peace a chance in the State. It shall be in the interest of preserving Indian democracy in J&K as J&K was, is and shall be integral part of the Union of India. This is the mandate of the Constitution of India supported by the Constitution of J&K,” the memorandum added.
