Panel discussion on ‘Solid Waste Management’ held

JAMMU, Feb 3: District Legal Services Authority Jammu organized a panel discussion on ‘Solid Waste Management” today in collaboration with ‘A Day Care and Recreation Centre, Ahata-e-Waqaar’, Roop Nagar Jammu.
Members Secretary UT of J&K Legal Services Authority, MK Sharma, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Naushad Ahmed Khan, Joint Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Ashish Gupta, Nodal Officer Solid Waste Management, JMC Dr Zafar Iqbal, Advocate Deepali Arora, Advocate Beauty Pandita, Advocate Deepa Thakur, Advocate Veena Julmaria, Advocate Pratima Singh and senior citizens participated in the programme.
It was unanimously decided by the senior citizens that they voluntarily adopt an area including schools, localities of District Jammu to aware the people regarding solid waste management and also helps to make this campaign a public movement to make Jammu city free from single use plastic and work towards this mission whole heartly. They also urged to the Joint Commissioner to provide better solutions for plastic reuse and recycling.
A detailed lecture was given by Dr Zafar Iqbal on solid waste management in which he asserted that households and residential localities are the main source of plastic waste and advised to deposit such waste in special bins. In some wards, there is a door step service for collection of waste but in some areas where it is not possible, community dustbins have been installed, he added.
All the members present in the programme also pledged to extend their full support in this initiative.
