JAMMU, July 16: Pt Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust in a meeting here today appealed the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to fulfill his promise regarding bringing an ordinance for constitution of a Board for protection of Hindu shrines and temples in Kashmir valley.
The meeting was presided over by chairman of the Trust, Dr A N Pandita and among others it was attended by Dr R L Bhat, Kashmiri Lal, Dr B L Handoo, H N Pandita, Manmohan Thaploo and H L Bhat.
The meeting expressed concern that despite passage of four months since the Chief Minister had made a promise in Apex Committee meeting that Government will bring an ordinance in place of religious Bill for enactment of law but till date this was not done.
It said the religious shrines of Kashmiri Hindus are in a dilapidated state in Valley and their land has either been encroached by the mafia groups or sold by self-styled custodians of these shrines, which needs to be checked.
It said the religious shrines of Hindus in Kashmir are heritage centers and need to be preserved for posterity hence their proper management was needed which can be only done by constituting a Governing Board.
The meeting urged the Chief Minister not to delay the decision as promised by him in the Apex Committee meeting and later reiterated the same by Minister of Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla in subsequent meetings with the community members.
