Pancholi arrested

MUMBAI, Mar 8:
Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi was today arrested for allegedly assaulting and abusing a bouncer of a night club at a five-star hotel in suburban Juhu, police said.
However, the 50-year-old actor was later released on bail.
Pancholi allegedly smashed the head of bouncer Mandar Patole (29) with his mobile handset while he was being escorted out after he created ruckus and damaged the counter at the pub in the wee hours today.
According to police, the actor along with a friend reached the Trilogy pub in Hotel Sea Princess on Juhu Tara Road late last night.
“At about 12.45 AM today, an allegedly inebriated Pancholi requested the disc jockey (DJ) to play Hindi songs as, according to him, only English numbers were being played in the pub. When the DJ turned down his request, Pancholi had a tiff with him,” Santacruz police station’s senior inspector Padmakar Chavan said.
The actor even damaged the club counter, police sources said.
When the bouncers intervened and asked him to leave the place, the actor unleashed a torrent of abuse and began roughing them up.
When Patole tried to escort out Pancholi for creating ruckus, the actor lost his cool and banged his mobile handset on the bouncer’s head, injuring him.
Subsequently, police were informed and Pancholi was arrested.
Patole was rushed to a nearby civic-run Bhabha hospital where he had five stitches on the head.
Pancholi was taken to the police station and placed under arrest in the wee hours today under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace).
Later at around 12.30 PM today, the actor was produced before a holiday court which sent him in judicial custody till March 20.
However, Pancholi later applied for bail and he was released on a Rs 50,000 cash bail even as the court asked him to surrender his mobile phone.
“The court has ordered Pancholi to surrender his mobile handset that was used in the crime. If he does not surrender it, we would seek his cancellation of bail in days to come,” Chavan said.
Police said Pancholi did not show any remorse for his act and was seen making fun of lawyers and policemen at the court premises before his case came up for hearing.
The actor, who worked in several films, including ‘Yes Boss’, ‘Sailaab’, ‘Jai Ho’, ‘Dishkiyaoon’ and ‘Race 2’, had brush with the law in the past as well.
He had been booked for thrashing his neighbours in 2013 and had heated arguments with mediapersons on a number of occasions.
In June 2013, Pancholi’s son Suraj had been booked by Juhu police on charges of allegedly abetting the suicide of Bollywood actress Nafisa alias Jiah Khan. Suraj was arrested in the case and later granted bail.
Suraj was the last person with whom Jiah had communicated on her cell on the night on June 3, 2013, after which she committed suicide by hanging herself in her apartment here.  (PTI)
