Pak troops violate ceasefire in Uri sector

BARAMULLA: Pakistani troops on Sunday morning violated ceasefire and resorted to indiscriminate and unprovoked shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC), targeting forward posts and civilian areas in Uri sector of this north Kashmir district, official sources said.
Sources said that after remaining silent for about a week, Pakistani troops fired indiscriminately, targeting forward posts on the LoC and civilian areas in Uri sector, early on Sunday morning.
They said Indian troops also retaliated and targeted them. However, the damage suffered by Pak troops was not immediately known.
Though the shell fell in an open forest area without causing any damage, the house of one Mohammad Sadiq Barwal at village Batar Jabda in Kamalkote was damaged.
However, no one was injured, as majority of the residents in nearby villages of around five km area have already shifted to the main town Uri, where they are staying in some school or with their relatives.
The residents of border areas of Uri sector recently held a massive demonstration at Uri, alleging that the Government has failed to construct underground bunkers, as was the case in Jammu region.
Demanding construction of bunkers, in which the residents could take shelter in case of shelling by Pak troops, the residents said the education of their children, besides their daily life, had been badly hit by the shelling.
