Pak bans PoJK civil rights group

NEW DELHI, June 6:
Pakistan has banned the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC), one of the most prominent civil rights organizations in Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK), and designated it as a terrorist organization.
The move has sparked widespread anger among local residents and rights activists. The JKJAAC has been actively campaigning for economic reforms, civil rights, and greater accountability from authorities in PoJK.

sssssThe committee has played a key role in organizing demonstrations against rising living costs, electricity tariffs, and what residents describe as discriminatory policies by the Pakistani government and military establishment. Over the past several months, the organization has emerged as a major voice for public grievances in the region.
Residents of PoJK have long accused Islamabad of exploiting the region’s natural resources while failing to provide adequate economic opportunities and basic public services. Allegations of political marginalization, economic neglect, and restrictions on civil liberties have contributed to growing dissatisfaction among the local population. (Agencies)
