Pak-backed elements, separatists fomenting trouble: Nirmal Singh

JAMMU, July 11: Deputy Chief Minister and BJP veteran Dr Nirmal Singh said today that some Pakistan-sponsored elements and separatists were instrumental in fomenting present trouble in the Kashmir Valley and lauded security forces and police for doing commendable job under tough circumstances.
Speaking to reporters after holding high level review of security situation here, Dr Singh said there have been inputs that some elements, under the garb of Kashmir unrest, were trying to create communal trouble in Jammu region but declared that the Government was determined to maintain peace and normalcy in the entire State,.
Asserting that there was complete coordination between Central and State Governments and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was monitoring situation in the State regularly, the Deputy Chief Minister said security forces were doing commendable job in maintaining law and order and following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by exercising maximum restraint to avert civilian casualties.
“Over 100 security personnel have been injured while one of them was killed during the protests,” he said.
Dr Singh declared that law will take its own course and those responsible for fomenting trouble in the State would be dealt with.
Assuring fool-proof security for Shri Amarnath Ji pilgrims, Dr Singh said the Government was committed to ensure complete security for the yatris and the Centre has already dispatched additional forces.
He regretted that present disturbances have also badly affected the tourist season in Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, in order to review the security situation in Jammu region, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh, chaired a high level meeting with officers of civil administration, Police, Army, BSF and para military forces here today.
IGP Jammu, Danish Rana, DIG Jammu-Kathua range Ashkoor Ahmad Wani, DCs and SSPs of Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur were present in the meeting.
The IGP Jammu informed the meeting that the yatra has been resumed today from Jammu with adequate security arrangements for their onward journey. He apprised that all necessary arrangements have been put in place for safety of Amarnathji yatris during their stay and yatra.
While addressing the officers, Dr Singh directed them to put synergized efforts to maintain peace and harmony in the region. He asked the DCs to convene meetings with civil society members to seek their support in this regard. He instructed the police authorities to establish additional nakas and enhance patrolling on national highway.
The DCs and SSPs of Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda also attended the meeting through video conferencing.
The Deputy CM directed them to make sure that there is no lapse in the security arrangements during Amarnathji yatra. He also asked them to prepare an effective mechanism for smooth conduct of forthcoming religious yatras in their respective districts.
He directed the BSF authorities to beef up border management system and remain extra vigilant on international border.
Dr. Singh exhorted upon all the agencies to work in a coordinated manner and put maximum efforts in dealing with any serious situation.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister appealed the people to remain vigilant against the nefarious designs of anti-social elements who are hell bent upon creating a wedge in the society to meet their vested interests.
