The revamp model is legally sound: ICC
New Delhi, Feb 7:Responding to opposition from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to the proposed changes in ICC’s structure, ICC’s head of legal affairs Iain Higgins has said that the revamp model was “legally sound” and member boards can vote against it should it be brought to vote during tomorrow’s Board meeting in Singapore.
On Wednesday, SLC president Jayantha Dharmadasa wrote to Higgins after a special meeting of the SLC stakeholders voted unanimously against the revised proposals presented to the ICC directors at the ICC Board meeting on January 28.
Higgins has replied to Dharamdasa, saying that “the proposals themselves could be “considered” within the ICC’s “Memorandum and Articles of Association” and members are free express their opposition.
“[…]On the face of the resolutions themselves, they would appear to be correct. Any Member who disagrees with that analysis or any of the resolutions is, of course, free to vote against the resolutions, or take such other action as they see fit,” Higgins wrote.
Apart from SLC, Cricket South Africa and the Pakistan Cricket Board are also unhappy with the proposals that will give a major say to BCCI, ECB and Cricket Australia in the running of the game.
In his correspondence to Higgins, Dharmadasa had said the “purported proposals” were completely against the fundamental principles on which the ICC had been formed.
He feared that the revised structure would put power in the hands of “just three Full Members” and make available to them a “disproportionately large share” of the ICC funding meant for all ten Full Members. That, he said, would only violate the equal revenue-share model that was part of the ICC constitution. (PTI)
Kashmir no issue, created only by Kashmir centric leadership: Langeh
Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Feb 7: State president, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Tulsi Dass Langeh today said that there is no real Kashmir problem and this is only created by Kashmir centric leadership of NC, Congress, PDP and All Party Hurriyat Conference to divert the attention of the people of the State from real issues concerning the common man like unemployment, rampant corruption, sky rocketing prices of essential commodities besides others.
“Funds received under different sectors are being diverted to other sectors and some of them are shown spent only on papers. No funds are utilized properly on ground level due to which people are facing severe hardships in the absence of basic amenities”, said BSP leader while addressing a meeting of party workers from Jammu and Samba districts.
Langeh said it is a mater of great astonishment that our State, which has a lot of natural resources, has become a beggar in the hands of Kashmir centric leadership instead of becoming self reliant. The situation has so deteriorated that State Government is not in a position to pay salary to its employees in case the funds are not received from the Centre, he added.
The BSP leader said that time has come to defeat such political forces in the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections to save the State from plundering in future.
NC-Cong in understanding with PDP to defeat delimitation demand: Bhim
Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Feb 7: Reiterating his demand for delimitation of the constituencies, JK National Panthers Party chief patron Prof Bhim Singh today alleged that the genuine demand was defeated by the ruling alliance with the tacit support of PDP which has been opposing the delimitation with perfect understanding with NC and Congress.
In a statement, Prof Bhim Singh also sought to clarify that Supreme Court has not put a stop on delimitation of the constituencies in J&K. “The Supreme Court in a writ petition filed by the Panthers Party had upheld the judgment of the J&K High Court that the Constitution of J&K had been amended to withhold delimitation till after the census of 2026 was taken. Secondly, the Congress was never interested in the delimitation except making fool of the electorates in Jammu Pradesh,” he explained, adding that the delimitation did not mean only increase in the number of Assembly constituencies.
“The geographical readjustment of the Assembly constituencies and rotation of the reserved seats are other two important factors of the delimitation and there is no bar on the same, Prof Singh said, adding that the Congress and NC leaders were playing bluff with the people by adjusting geographical units from across the constituency limits and boundaries only to suit them caste-wise, sect-wise or otherwise.
“To minimize the importance of the Buddhists in Zanskar, four halqa-patwars of Kargil were annexed in Zanskar constituency. Similarly, Keran was tagged with Tangdhar only to reduce the Paharies in strength. Keran and Karnah remain cut off for six months from each other. Four halqa-patwars of Reasi District were annexed with Chenani constituency of Udhampur district having no geographical connection at all. There are many such tragic tales to tell but the situation is exploited by political hawks in the ruling parties,” the JKNPP leader explained.
