Water supply to remain affected

JAMMU, Aug 8: Due to heavy flood in river Tawi today and high turbidity, the pumping has been affected at Sitlee, Dhounthly and Boria filtration plants with a result water supply to various parts will remain affected tomorrow.
According to SE PHE Mechanical Urban Circle Jammu Sunil Kumar Gupta the areas to remain affected are parts of Old City, Rehari, Janipur, New Plot, Subash Nagar, Sarwal, Roop Nagar, Bantalab, Kamal Keran, Chinore, Sainik Colony, Bhatindi, Channi Himmat and other areas.
Public is requested to use water judiciously.

Court frames charges against five in Naval War Room leak case

NEW DELHI, Aug 8:
A Delhi court today framed charges against five persons, including three former naval officers and an ex-IAF Wing Commander, in the 2006 Naval War Room leak case.
Special CBI Judge J P S Malik put on trial former Navy officer Kulbhushan Prashar, former Naval Commander Vijender Rana, sacked Naval Commander V K Jha, former IAF Wing Commander Sambha Jee L Surve and arms dealer and Delhi-based businessman Abhishek Verma for the offence of criminal conspiracy under the IPC and under various provisions of the Official Secrets Act (OSA).
The court framed charges after the five accused pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
The court fixed September 8, 9 and 10 for commencing the trial by recording the statements of prosecution witnesses.
The court on July 31 had ordered framing of charges against the accused. The court had said charges of spying by obtaining secret documents, wrongful communication of information and abetment of offences under the OSA have been prima facie made out against them.
“It is held that prima facie offence punishable under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC read with section 3 (penalties for spying) and section 5 (wrongful communication etc., of information) and Section 9 (attempts, incitements, etc. Of commission of offence) of the OSA, is disclosed against accused Prashar, Surve, Rana, Jha and Verma ….,” the court had said.
Prime accused Ravi Shankaran is still absconding and has been declared proclaimed offender by the court.
While Prashar, Surve, Rana and Jha are on bail, Verma is in judicial custody and they were present in the court.
The counsel for the accused said that they will challenge this order before a superior court.
The 2006 Navy War Room leak case involves leaking of over 7000 pages of defence information of sensitive nature from the Naval war room and air defence headquarters, having a direct bearing on national security.
The accused in the case have been charge sheeted by CBI for allegedly conspiring to commit offences under the OSA.
CBI had filed the first charge sheet on July 3, 2006 against Shankaran and four ex-defence officials in the case.
In its second charge sheet, the agency had indicted Verma for allegedly conspiring to obtain the defence documents.
Verma was handling Indian affairs of Atlas group of industries and had allegedly received remittances to the tune of Rs 6.5 crore, ostensibly for paying bribes to defence personnel for obtaining information of various purchases to be made by the military, the charge sheet had said.
The Atlas group of companies had submitted bids to supply communication equipment required by the armed forces but none of the contracts had been finalised so far, CBI had said.
CBI had registered the case on March 20, 2006, on a reference from Defence Ministry and after scrutiny of report of the inquiry held by Indian Air Force against Surve and the Board of Inquiry conducted by Indian Navy.
Prashar was arrested at the airport here on April 5, 2006, on his return from London, following which nationwide searches were carried out at 20 premises of the six accused. He was later on granted bail. (PTI)

Housing Cooperative of Bank Officers’ launched

JAMMU, Aug 8: The Bank Officers’ Housing Co-operative Limited Jammu was launched here today in a simple and impressive function.
The Co-operative was formally launched by Chairman, The Citizens’ Cooperative Bank Limited, Jammu, Dinesh Gupta, in the presence of Arun Sharma, Ram Gopal and Rajni Gupta, Directors and founder members of the Co-operative.
While addressing the gathering, Dinesh Gupta wished the Bank Officers’ Housing Cooperative Ltd all the success in the coming years and also assured all possible help from the Bank.
Anil Modi, Chairman of the Housing Cooperative, while speaking on the occasion narrated about the aims and objectives of the Cooperative. He also revealed that the Cooperative is in the process of acquiring land having good approach to municipal/JDA Limits.
He further stated that the main objective of the Housing Cooperative will be to provide State of Art Housing Colony/Flats to the members of the Cooperative at affordable rates. He said the Housing Cooperative is planning to provide a Community Centre and a Shopping Complex to meet the daily needs of the inhabitants besides a dispensary within the Colony.
The Chairman of the Cooperative further apprised those present on the occasion that Cooperative will very shortly start the enrollment process of the members for which bank officers, Gazetted officers and Sports persons are eligible. However, he made it clear that priority shall be given to the officers of The Citizens’Cooperative Bank Ltd.
Kuldeep Kumar Gupta, General Manager, Rajeev Dogra, Chief Manager along with Branch Managers and other   officers of The Citizens’ Cooperative Bank Ltd, Jammu were also present on the occasion.

6 bovines rescued, one held

RAMBAN, Aug 8: Banihal police rescued eight bovine animals and arrested a smuggler.
As per police sources, on specific inputs, police team from Banihal police station laid a naka and intercepted a TATA mobile bearing registration number JK02W-2386.
During checking, police rescued 6 bovine animals and arrested the driver of the vehicle, who has been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed, son of Baz Ahmed of Darmound Batote.
A case under FIR number 98/14 under Section 188 RPC and 3 PC Act has been registered at police station Banihal and investigation started.

Czech Ambassador calls on Dr Jitendra

NEW DELHI, Aug 8: India will offer training to Czech scientists.  This was stated here today by Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, MoS in Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Space & Atomic Energy, when the Ambassador of Czech Republic, Miloslav Stasek called on him at his North Block Office.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that though a small country, Czechoslovakia has assumed importance in the international domain, particularly in the area of automobile technology by the sheer dent of hard work and determination.
The Czech Ambassador informed the Minister that in the month of October, a group of scholars from various Czech universities will be coming to India for interaction with Indian scholars in the Union Capital as well as other major cities including Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bhubaneshwar.  He requested Dr Jitendra Singh to spare some time for appointment with these visiting scholars and also offered courses like Ph.D and automobile training for students from India.
Giving his consent for a meeting with the Czech scholars, Dr Jitendra Singh said that right from ancient times, India has been a favourite destination for scholars, researchers and explorers from other continents and in the present context, India also offers exclusive opportunities for affordable innovation which could help in supplementing knowledge based economy in a global world.
Dr Jitendra Singh also disclosed that the Indian Embassy in Pregue has been asked to get in touch with the Czech Government and expedite the proposals related to Science & Technology.  He also emphasized the need to be flexible in implementing bilateral programmes in order to accommodate the constraints and diversities of the two countries.

JAMMU, Aug 8: JD Institute of Fashion and Technology is all set to host first of its kind fashion show ‘Responsibility’ tomorrow in Jammu, where in forty budding designers of the Institute are showcasing their design collections at Bee Pee Greens Banquet.
This was disclosed by Mansi Gupta, Centre Director, JD Institute during a press conference here this evening.
She informed that there would by 19 sequences in the show–15 would be of upcoming designers of JD Institute, 2 would be  of the just launched what the fashion, 2 by famous jewellery brand Silverlines and a bridal collection by Bhatia Sons.
The highlight of the event is that for the first time all international models would be walking the ramp, Mansi Gupta said, adding that some of the models participating in the show are Blanka, Yana, Nikola, Denisha, Anna, Maria, Violetta, Katrin, Dominika and Lucia.
She further stated that the hard work of the students and the faculty of JD Institute would be visible in the quality of the costumes.
Raman Gupta, Chairman, JD Institute while speaking said that all the efforts that the students and faculty have put in all through the year needs to be appreciated and that is why we are providing them with such a big and grand platform.
He added that the main aim of organizing this fashion show in Jammu was to provide platform to the budding J&K Designers to exhibit their talent.
Choreographer of the show Vinay Roy said that he is all set to give Jammu a never before kind of experience.
