Donald Trump has divided US; turned Americans against one another: Biden
Washington, Oct 31: Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has accused President Donald Trump of dividing the US and turning Americans against one another based on race, ethnicity and national anthem.
Speaking at a rally in Minnestota on Friday, Biden said the US cannot afford to have Trump for another four years as the country’s President.
“The only thing that can tear America apart is America itself. That’s exactly what Donald Trump has been doing from the beginning. Divide America. Pitting Americans against one another based on race, ethnicity, national origin. That’s wrong. That’s not who we are. Everybody knows who Donald Trump is. Let’s keep showing him who we are,” Biden said.
Biden, 77, who has been having restrictive campaigning and strictly adhering to the social distancing measures due to the coronavirus pandemic asserted that the US can no longer afford to have Trump for another four years.
“We cannot afford four more years of Donald Trump. In 2008 and 2012, you placed your trust in me and Barack Obama. And each day we were in office, we worked for you and the entire community. I’ll do it again in 2020. My campaign is a broad coalition of Democrats, Republicans, independence, Democrat–Republican officeholders. I’m running as that proud Democrat, but I will govern as an American president,” Biden said.
“It’s unconscionable that Trump, from the day he got elected to right now he’s fighting in court to rip that peace of mind away from tens of millions of Americans. But we’re not going to let him do it. We’re never going back to those days,” he said.
Biden said that he will work as hard for those who don’t support his as those who do.
“Because that’s the job of a president. It’s the duty of care for everyone. And you too have a sacred duty. The duty to vote. It matters. Minnesota matters,” he said and asserted that it’s time to stand up, and take back the democracy.
Biden alleged that the six generals who worked directly for the Trump administration have left and they say he does not deserve to be the commander in chief of the United States.
“That’s never happened to any president before,” he said.
Urging countrymen to use their power to vote to change the course of this country and the course of history, Biden asked them to keep that sense of empowerment.
“Keep that empowerment with you, that sense of optimism of what we can overcome. Now look, there’s a reason they don’t want to hear me, because they know the president doesn’t say anything, so they’re not used to not hearing anything. But I know it’s hard, folks. I know it’s hard,” he said.
The former vice president on Friday also travelled to Milwaukee in Wisconsin, and Des Moines in Iowa. (PTI)
UN defeats Russia resolution promoting women at peace tables
United Nations, Oct 31: The UN Security Council defeated a Russian resolution Friday to commemorate the 20th anniversary of a UN measure demanding equal participation for women in activities promoting global peace, with opponents objecting to its failure to adequately address human rights and the key role of civil society in pushing for gender equality.
The email vote on the resolution was 5-0, with 10 countries abstaining, far less than the minimum nine “yes” votes required for adoption.
The Russian draft was supported by Russia, China, Vietnam, Indonesia and South Africa.
The countries that abstained were the United States, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Dominican Republic, Germany, Estonia, Niger, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Tunisia.
Opponents said the Russian draft weakened the initial UN resolution adopted in 2000 and nine follow-up resolutions — which Russia strongly denied.
Germany’s UN Ambassador Christoph Heusgen said his calls for strong language on the human rights foundation of all the resolutions, and for “the adequate reflection of the critical role of civil society, women peacebuilders and human rights defenders” in implementing the measures were not reflected in the Russian draft.
What is needed is “action and implementation,” he said, “not more words.”
US Ambassador Kelly Craft said the Trump administration and the other countries that abstained were protecting the women, peace and security agenda from an attack by Russia and China, which contributed to the draft resolution.
She said the draft resolution “was designed to undermine and reverse the progress of the past 20 years,” and “it is evident that our Russian and Chinese colleagues … Do not believe women should be fully empowered to prevent conflict, or sit at the table to pursue peace and reconciliation.”
Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia, the current Security Council president, told a news conference after announcing the vote that the defeated draft did reaffirm and urge implementation of all 10 previous resolutions — and he dismissed claims that it was a step back or watered down as “not true.”
“Civil society, human rights were all there,” he said.
“We are for the civil society and human rights. To accuse us that we are trying to strike out the references to this is at best unworthy.”
Civil society and human rights are mentioned in the defeated resolution’s introductory paragraphs — but not in its binding operative paragraphs.
They were in the operative paragraphs in earlier drafts, but diplomats said the were dropped at China’s insistence.
The Russian resolution would have commemorated the 20th anniversary of the initial women, peace and security resolution and noted “with deep concern persistent barriers” to its implementation.
At a council meeting Thursday commemorating the anniversary, the head of the UN agency promoting gender equality said the resolution’s demand for equal participation for women in peace negotiations has failed.
Women still remain “systematically excluded” from talks to end conflicts where men make decisions affecting their lives, UN Women’s Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said.
Despite some good initiatives, she said that in peace negotiations from 1992 to 2019 only 13 per cent of negotiators, 6 per cent of mediators, and 6 per cent of signatories to peace agreements were women.
Mlambo-Ngcuka said negotiations elevated and empowered “the actors that have fuelled the violence,” instead of empowering women and others who are peace-builders — and women were either confined to “informal processes or relegated to the role of spectators.”
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reiterated to the council that “gender equality is first and foremost a question of power, and wherever we look, power structures are dominated by men,” starting at the top where women lead only 7 percent of countries.
Britain’s acting UN ambassador Jonathan Allen said after the vote that the UK held the widely shared view that the Russian draft lacked “sufficient language on implementation” and on women’s human rights and the protection of civil society.
“The adoption of this text would have undermined the significant achievements made on this critical agenda and the enduring efforts of so many women’s rights activists,” Allen said. (AGENCIES)

Manufacturing employment remained in negative territory with a reading of 49.3, a decline from 49.6 in September. China has struggled to get people back to work even as the pandemic has largely receded at home. (Agencies)

Nafed floats bids for supply of 15,000 tonnes of imported red onions by Nov 20
NEW DELHI, Oct 31: Cooperative Nafed on Saturday invited bids from importers for supply of 15,000 tonnes of red onions by November 20 in order to boost the domestic availability and check price rise.
The cooperative has asked bidders to supply 40 to 60 mm size of red onions from any country of origin at Rs 50 per kg by November 20. They can bid for a minimum quantity of 2,000 tonnes to be supplied in multiple lots of 500 tonnes, it said.
The bidding will close on November 4 and received bids will be opened on the same day. The shipments are to be delivered at Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Kandla ports, it added.
“We have floated tenders for supply of 15,000 tonnes of imported red onions. This will help increase the domestic supply situation,” Nafed Additional Managing Director S K Singh said.
The bids will be evaluated based on volumes, quality and early date of shipment. Bidders have to supply fresh, well dried and cured onions, he added.
Since the buffer stock of onion, which Nafed manages on behalf of the government, is gradually getting depleted, the cooperative has been asked to augment domestic supplies with imported onions to continue with ongoing market intervention.
Last year, Nafed had not only imported on its own some quantities but also distributed onions imported by state-run MMTC.
This year, it wants to get the supplies from importers so that shipments could arrive fast and improve the domestic supply situation. Even the size of onion Nafed has specified for supply is what Indians normally consume.
Last year, big size onions were imported but there were hardly any takers for that.
So far, Nafed has offloaded around 37,000 tonnes of onion from the buffer stock of nearly 1 lakh tonnes in select mandis and retail markets so that to check retail prices which have skyrocketed to over Rs 80 per kg in some parts of the country due to damage to the kharif crop in the wake of heavy rains in the key growing states.
On October 30, Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal had said that private traders have already imported 7,000 tonnes of onion and another 25,000 tonnes are expected to arrive before Diwali.
The government hopes that the several measures taken recently including ban on export of onion and stock limits on traders will help ease pressure on prices during the festival period. (PTI)

After having ruined the heavenly land of Kashmir, Pakistan trained militants marched successfully towards Doda district of Jammu region in during nineties . As a result, this region too got engulfed by the fire of separatism.
In Jammu and Kashmir when Pak based inhuman Jehadis cleared the valley of original inhabitants national forces (Kashmiri Pandits) , they eyed erstwhile Doda District which include Kishtwar and Ramban districts because they knew people here are fiercely nationalist and if they are uprooted there will be no resistance at other places.
Different terrorist organizations who were operating in the area under a anti national conspiracy hatched by Pakistan resulted in selective killings of minority community and executed dozens of massacres of thoses who were associated with Pro Indian organizations or who were raising voice against anti national elements which ultimately resulted in migration of minority and nationalist forces from far flung hilly area of erstwhile Doda .All these anti-national activities, sabotage and subversion, were taking place in broad day light. More than this they indulged in massacre of the people, they deemed a, challenge.
To rectify this situation and weld the common people into an invisible force and stop mass exodus during nineties there came nationalist leadrs like Anil Parihar, Ajit Parihar, Chander Kant Sharma, Satish Bhandari , Chaman Shan, Sewa Ram, Parveen Gupta alias Sheru , Advocate Santosh Thakur , Ruchir Kumar Koul and many others on the scene. They enthused people to the extent that they felt convinced that with their available self defense weapons and patriotism they can give befitting reply to militants . The example of unmatched velour was witnessed when people along with these leaders started openly opposing anti national forces who were earlier forcefully execution there programmes here threatening people .
To give terrorist a befitting reply these nationalist forces launched “Doda Bachoo Andolan” in ninenties demanding setting up of village defence committee , formation of SOG and handing over Doda to army. As a result of which SOG and VDC’s were formed in militancy infested district . National forces without taking care of their lives helped security forces and openly resisted against nefarious design of terrorist time to time. Due to this policy migration of minority community stopped from here and militancy got crushed. If the people here had not not given their martyrdom for nation situation in rest of state would have been different.
Here is a brief history of selective killings and massacre executed by terrorist in erstwhile Doda district to spread reign of terror . On 19 Dec 1992 BJP leader Advocate Santosh Thakur was Martyred by terrorist in Doda town . On 10th May 1993, Satish Bhandari Ji, State Secretary of Hindu Raksha Samiti was martyred by terrorists in Kishtwar .
After few months later, terrorists again martyred another social worker Parveen Gupta on 26 Dec 1993 in the heart of city who was the only son of his father and mother . On the directions of Pakistan, terrorist struck in Bhaderwah and killed political leader Ruchir Kumar Koul on 7th June 1994 . After this incident terrorist killed Pawan Sen on 21 June 1995 and then a Government Health department employee Chaman Lal Shan on May 9 1998 .
Beside these selective killings during three decade long militancy militants, Martyred Anil and his brother Ajit Parihar who was State BJP state Secretary on Ist November 2018 and after few month another selective killing was executed by terrorists of Chander Kant Sharma who was a social worker and Health Deptt Employee. They were martyred because they were nationalist and were supporting democratic process and working for strengthening nationalism .
Beside these selective killings, militants executed several massacre .The killings started on 14 August 1993 when militants sprayed bullets with their automatic weapons on 14 members of a minority community after dragging them out of a passenger bus on the Sarthal Link Road in Kishtwar. On 17 April 1998 in Prankote and Dakikote terrorist massacred 26 minority community people . On 19 June 1998 in Chapnari massacre terrorist massacred 25 people of minority community . On 3 August 2001 terrorist massacred 17 villagers of minority community in village Ladder near Kishtwar .
On 30 April 2006 terrorist again hatched a plan and massacred 35 members of minority community in two separate attacks. In the first attack twenty two unarmed members of minority community mostly shepherds or their families, were lined up and gunned down by terrorists in Thawa village in Kulhand area of Doda district .The second attack in the neighbouring Lalon Galla village in Basantgarh area of Udhampur district, in which 35 Hindu shepherds kidnapped by suspected terrorists were shot dead on the same day.
But is quite amazing that all these martyrdoms and massacres were forgotten by politicians and Government too who never did anything to recognize these martyrdom nor did anything for the welfare of there kiths and kins . No one cares for such nationalist forces. Neither any social nor any political outfits Came forward but were taking credit at the time of martyrdom of people nor Government recognized martyrdom of nationalist forces who remained worst suffers during thirty years long turmoil in the state and saved entire region from anti national forces .
Government neither provide any special package nor even built memorial in their memory to acknowledge the sacrifice of those who attained martyrdom.
On 01 Nov 2020 we are having Parihar brothers Martydom day. Both the brothers Anil and Ajit Parihar attained Martydom for nation two years back . Anil Parihar who was BJP State Secy was gunned down because he was working for strengthening nationalism and democratic values in erstwhile Doda district and came on the radar of terrorist as he raised voice against 35 A and 370 articles.
On the second Martydom of Parihar brothers majority of people living here are raising their demand that a memorial on the lines of Jallianwala Bagh be built in the memory of leaders and innocent people killed during the Pakistan-sponsored terrorism era at district and State
