The Indian women will face Mongolia in the semifinal on Saturday.

The Indian men, on the other hand, were given a tough fight by Mongolia. Both the matches ended with a similar 2.5-1.5 scoreline in favour of India.

Vaishali was in impressive form in the preliminary round with a score of 6.5 from nine rounds to land the gold for the top board while captain Mary Ann Gomes claimed the gold for fifth board with five wins from as many games.

Padmini Rout took silver for third board with 7.5 points from nine matches.

Rohit misses CSK game due to hamstring injury

SHARJAH, Oct 23: A hamstring injury ruled Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma out of the IPL game against Chennai Super Kings here on Friday.

Rohit suffered the injury during MI’s last game against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday.

In a statement issued before the CSK game here, the franchise said, “Rohit Sharma has suffered left leg hamstring strain during Mumbai Indians’ last outing.”

“Rohit has made good progress over last four days, while the management is taking one day at a time monitoring the recovery process in consultancy with BCCI,” the statement added.

Veteran Kieron Pollard took over the leadership duties from Rohit.

“Rohit has been advised rest for the match against CSK. Kieron Pollard will lead the team tonight,” the statement added.

Defending champions Mumbai Indians are on course for making the play-offs. Their next game is on Sunday.

Doubts over his fitness will increase if he is not ready for that game against Rajasthan Royals, considering the Indian team travels to Australia for an important tour right after the IPL.

Injury had forced Rohit out of the better part of the New Zealand tour earlier this year, India’s last assignment before the COVID-19 outbreak suspended cricketing activities worldwide. At that time, he had endured a calf injury during the T20 leg.

India’s limited overs vice-captain is also an important member of the Test squad, having succeeded in his new role of an opener.

Rohit had scored back to back hundreds in debut game as a Test opener in the home series against South Africa last year.

He is yet to play an overseas Test as an opener, therefore, the Australia tour will be his toughest test till date.

The assignment is due to start in November with three one-dayers from November 27, followed by as many T20 Internationals.

The Test matches will begin December 17 in Adelaide with a day-night contest.  (PTI)

Ishan Kishan stars after Boult and Bumrah show in MI’s comprehensive win over CSK

SHARJAH, Oct 23:

Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah’s devastating pace-bowling spell in tandem before Ishan Kishan’s batting heroics helped Mumbai Indians’ post a comprehensive 10-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in a completely lop-sided IPL match here on Friday.
With the embarrassing loss, CSK are all but out of reckoning for the play-offs with just six points from 11 games, while MI jumped to the top spot with 14 points from 10 matches.
Bowling in tandem, Boult (4/18) and Bumrah (2/25) reduced CSK to 21 for 5 inside powerplay with three and two wickets respectively and CSK never recovered from there, limping to 114 for 9, largely thanks to Sam Curran’s 52.
Chasing 115 for a win, Kishan (68 not out), opening in place of regular skipper Rohit Sharma who missed out due to a hamstring injury, and Quinton de Kock (46 not out) knocked off the required runs in just 12.2 overs.
The duo toyed with the CSK bowling attack on a dreadful day for the MS Dhoni-led side to carry their bats through the innings.
The left-handed Kishan, who has not had a substantial score after his knock of 99 against Royal Challengers Bangalore, was at his attacking best as he smashed six fours and five sixes during his 37-ball innings.
The South African de Kock played second fiddle during his 37-ball innings which had five fours and two sixes.
Earlier, Boult and Burmah produced a devastating pace-bowling spell in tandem to restrict CSK to 114 for 9.
Put in to bat, CSK were five wickets down inside powerplay overs with Boult and Bumrah taking three and two wickets respectively.
CSK could reach to 114 for 9 thanks largely to Sam Curran’s enterprising half-century. The young Englishman mixed caution with aggression to top-score with 52 (47 balls, 4 fours, 2 sixes) in an otherwise pathetic display by CSK batsmen.
Boult eventually picked up four wickets for 18 runs, 13 of those coming in the final over. Bumrah (2/25) and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar (2/22) picked up two wickets each while Nathan Coulter-Nile ended with 1 for 25.
Incidentally, Curran’s 43-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Imran Tahir (13 not out) was the highest partnership of the CSK innings which showed the rest of the batsmen in poor light. (PTI)
