Residents of Tikker area stage protest against water scarcity

SRINAGAR, Oct 23: The residents of Tikker area in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today protested against the scarcity of drinking water for last more than one month.
Scores of residents along with women blocked Kupwara-Sopore road to register their protest against the Jal Shakti Department.
The locals said that the concerned department has been ignoring their plight is not giving due attention to the issues that they are facing.
They said that they will continue their protest until their issue is not solved and appealed to the department to take notice of the issue and take measures to address the same.
However, the officials said that the department is helpless keeping in view the dry spell that is on.
“There is an overall scarcity of water; there is a dry spell and the water level in the sources has decreased,” they said.
The officials, however, assured that they will look into the matter and will try to address their issue.
