RS PURA, May 2: A padyatra in support of the 100-day-long “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” launched by the LG Manoj Sinha, organized jointly by Jammu Police, Team Jammu and Beopar Mandal RS Pura was held here today.
The yatra began from Sardar Bana Singh (PVC) Stadium and passed through key markets of RS Pura, drawing active participation from civil society members, traders and youth.
The initiative aimed to spread awareness about the rising menace of drug addiction and encourage community-driven action.
DIG Jammu–Samba–Kathua Range, Shridhar Patil, MLA Suchetgarh Gharu Ram Bhagat, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh Sambyal and Chairman, Team Jammu and BJP Spokesperson Zorawar Singh Jamwal were among the prominent participants.
Addressing the gathering, the DIG stressed the urgent need for collective efforts to tackle substance abuse, particularly among youth.
He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s activities and maintain open communication to prevent drug addiction at an early stage.
SSP Jammu Joginder Singh Sambyal, who led the Padyatra, appreciated the enthusiastic public participation and highlighted the importance of sustained community vigilance.
He said police are taking strict measures to dismantle drug networks and appealed to citizens to cooperate by sharing timely information.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal expressed concern over the increasing inflow of narcotics into border areas like RS Pura through drone activities from across the border.
He urged residents to report any suspicious objects or movements to the police and avoid handling unknown items.
Jamwal also emphasized the role of families, teachers and community leaders in guiding youth towards constructive activities.
Representatives of the Traders’ Association and various social organizations reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the campaign and assisting authorities in raising awareness and discouraging drug-related activities.
The event concluded with participants taking a collective pledge to support the “Drug-Free J&K” campaign and work towards eliminating drug abuse from society.
Among others who were present included SDPO RS Pura DySP Gurmeet Singh, SHO RS Pura Inspector Tribhuvan Khajuria, Beopar Mandal president Sonu Chopra and social activists including Pradeep Chopra, Apple Gupta and Arun Jojra.
