Over 9,000 injuries reported in 2016 Kashmir unrest: Govt

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday said more than 9,000 people suffered injuries in 2016 Kashmir unrest.
“As many as 9042 injuries were reported during Kashmir unrest which included 6,621 pellet injuries and 782 eye injuries,” the government said in a written reply to the question of NC Legislator Mubarak Gul.
“54 pellet related injured persons have been provided compensation,” replied the Government.
In another reply regarding number of persons detained under PSA during the unrest, the government said, “552 persons were detained under PSA during 2016 and all of them have been released”.
The Government further added that in the year 2017, 201 persons were detained under PSA, out of which 124 persons have been released and 77 are still under preventive detention.
