JAMMU, Aug 25: On the directions of District Magistrate, Simrandeep Singh, a team of officers today carried out drive against plastic kite flying thread and recovered 537 rolls, which were being sold in violation of the ban order.
The District Magistrate, in exercise of powers conferred upon him under Section 144 of CrPC, had early this month ordered that no pucca thread made of plastic or similar such synthetic material imported or indigenous which may be locally known as Chinese Dor (thread) shall be sold or purchased for kite flying within the jurisdiction of Jammu district.
However, it has come to the notice of the District Magistrate that sale of such a thread was continuing because of the failure of the Jammu Police to enforce implementation of the ban order in letter and spirit.
On the directions of District Magistrate, Additional DC, Riffat Kohli along with social activists and SHOs started the drive from Pakka Danga wholesale market where 2 shops were raided and about 60 rolls were recovered.
Three shops were raided in Channi Himmat where about 65 rolls were recovered. Similarly, In Nanak Nagar, Nai Basti and Last Morh areas, several shops were raided and 212 rolls were recovered.
Likewise, in Janipur area more than 200 plastic thread rolls were recovered from various shops.
The District Magistrate has directed all SHOs to lodge FIRs against all the shopkeepers under Section 188 of RPC.
