JAMMU, Sept 28: The White Knight Corps as part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations and ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, organised a ‘Know Your Army Mela’ at Nagrota with a view to motivate the youth to join the Indian Army.
The White Knight Corps was raised on June 01, 1972, by Lt Gen JFR Jacob, who was its first Corps Commander. The Corps has a rich history of valour in war and has also performed commendably in counter insurgency operations.
The ‘Know Your Army’ event comprised of awe inspiring display of Attack Helicopters Rudra and an enthralling display of `free fall sky diving’ by a team of sky divers from the Army Adventure Wing.
The event also included a scintillating display of flying using Para Motors. The demonstration of a Quick Attack Drill (QAD) used to destroy the enemy, captured the imagination of the audience.
The event was witnessed by more than 2000 children from (Army Public School Nagrota, Sainik School Nagrota, NCC cadets, Govt Girls Model Higher Secondary School Nagrota, Govt Boys High School Nagrota. The children were highly enthusiastic to see the Dog Show, Band Display and Weapon Equipment Display, organised on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the GOC White Knight Corps, Lt Gen Manjinder Singh recalled the glorious history of the Corps and its pivotal role in the defence of the Jammu region. He remembered the sacrifices made by brave-hearts to ensure peace in the region and to ensure its territorial integrity during the wars fought with Pakistan. The GOC complimented the public for their commendable contribution with the security forces in maintaining peace and harmony in the region.
