JAMMU, Aug 31: In support of the Ex-Servicemen’s demand for One Rank One Pension (OROP), J&K Ex-Services League has decided to lodge protest with candle lights throughout the State during the month of September.
On September 1, the protest will be started from Brig Rajinder Singh Chowk behind Secretariat Jammu at 7 pm. Similar protests will be held at Gen Zorawar Chowk Bahu Plaza on September 2, at Kunjwani Chowk on September 3 and Sainik Colony main office on September 4 at 7 pm. The main rally will be held at Samba on September 12 at 1100 hrs.
Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, president of the League, has requested Ex-servicemen to hold candle light protests in each village, town and city at 7 pm daily from September 1 for one month.
Condemning the Government for adopting delaying tactics on OROP, Jamwal said if the Government can give full pension to the Members of Parliament and Legislators in the states with one day’s service and also give OROP benefits to the Judges, senior IAS Officers and Lt Generals and above then why this can’t be accepted as a system for the Armed Forces.
