SRINAGAR : Opposition National Conference (NC) and Congress today staged a walk out from the joint session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature when Governor N N Vohra was addressing the members from both the houses at S K International Convention Complex (SKICC) on the bank of Dal Lake.
Since there were not sufficient seats to hold joint session at Legislative Complex, Governor’s address to members was shifted to SKICC. Immediately after Mr Vohra started address on the first day of the Budget session, members from the NC, Congress and independent Er Sheikh Abdul Rashid were on their toes, shouting slogans.
However, as Mr Vohra continued his address despite slogan shouting by opposition members, the NC members walked out from the House. The NC was also followed by Congress members. However, Er Rashid remained in the House shouting slogans against the government for failing to bring the culprits of Handwara incident to book.
The opposition members alleged that government had so far failed to address the basic issues of the people in the State.
Later they staged a dharna outside the House, raising slogans ” Bashan Nahee Ration Do”, PDP-BJP Government Hai.
” We are demanding resignation of Minister for forest Choudhary Lal Singh, withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and National Food Security Act (NFSA), ”the members said.
The NC and Congress members alleged that victims of September 2014 flood were yet to be rehabilitated by the government who is doing just lip service. (UNI)
