Srinagar : Massive operation by troops against the militants holed up in a government building at Pampore in south Kashmir entered third day today as intermittent firing continued throughout the night. So far, three personnel of para commandos, including two captains, two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and a gardener were killed and 13 CRPF men, including an officer, were injured since the encounter ensued on February 20 afternoon. A militant was also reported killed in the encounter. However, police said until the body of the militant is recovered, it cannot be confirmed. There was intermittent firing during the night and early this morning when security forces made a fresh attempt with the first light to enter the area where militants are believed to be holed up there was heavy exchange of fire. A group of militants, whose actual number was not clear, entered Entrepreneurship development Institute (EDI) building at Sempora Pampore, about 12 km from here on Srinagar-Jammu national highway after attacking CRPF vehicle in which two paramilitary men were killed and 13 others, including an Assistant Commandant, were injured. In the subsequent encounter, a gardener of EDI Abdul Gani and three Army personnel, including two Captains, also lost their lives. There was less firing during the intervening night as compared to yesterday, official sources said, adding that heavy exchange of fire took place when security forces tried to reach the area where militants are hiding this morning.
