Opening of new tourist routes will improve economy: ALTOA

LEH, Nov 19: All Ladakh Tour Operator Association (ALTOA) has stated that the proposed opening of new tourist routes will improve the economy of the people at grassroots level.
Addressing a press conference here ALTOA president, Tsetan Angchok said, the Union Minister, Rajnath Singh has recently said that Siachen Base Camp will be opened for domestic cultural tourists.
“This will surely boost the tourism industry in newly created Ladakh Union Territory,” he said adding that Ladakh is one of the most popular tourist destinations.
Angchok further said that cultural lover tourists can visit up to Siachen Base Camp by road while adventure lovers can make four days trekking upto Kumar Post. He informed that recently 21 ALTOA members conducted a three day familiarization trip to Siachen Base Camp from November 14-16 to check the infrastructure and tourist facilities there.
ALTOA General Secretary, Delex said that ALTOA is committed to promote sustainable and ecotourism in the region and it will also encourage rural tourism in all regions and in this regards ALTOA is in consultation with some organization to prepare a master plan so as to control the flow of tourists as per carrying capacity of the region.
One of the ALTOA members, Dr. Tsultim said, during their recent familiarization trip it was realised that there are various historical places around the Base Camp which will attract more tourists besides it will also be useful for local students to learn many things if they proceed on educational tour to Siachen Base Camp.
