UDHAMPUR, May 27: Latti Development Committee (LDC) has urged the J&K Forest department authorities to open a Timber depot and set up the office of Range Officer (RO) at Latti Tehsil headquarters of remote Dudu Sub Division in Udhampur district.
While submitting a memorandum to the visiting Commissioner/Secretary, Forests, Ecology and Environment, Sanjeev Verma at Latti Town last evening, the members of the LDC led by its chairman, Kasturi Lal Gupta (Sarpanch) said that it was an old demand of the people of the area to open a Timber depot at Latti, as there was no such facility available to the public in entire 60-70 km belt upto Cheneni.
They further demanded that office of Range Officer of Dudu Forest Range be established at Latti tehsil headquarters instead of Chenani. They said this Forest range is known as Dudu Range while office has been set up at Chenani which is about 90 kms away from Dudu and nearly 60 kms from Latti. They also demanded to develop Shivgali, Manju Top, Dhamdyali and Dudu tourist spots under Eco-Tourism, initiate plantation drive from Marothi to Dudu and construct 4 additional rooms with Chowkidar huts at Latti Forest guest house besides proper fencing of the complex with entry gate.
