JAMMU, Nov 5: The Shiv Sena (SS) J&K unit has raised its voice for the protection of the rights of consumers and demanded the opening of Consumer Complaint Centers in every district of J&K.
Led by Manish Sahni, president Shiv Sena J&K Unit scores of the party activists, local residents along with customer Deepak Kumar, demonstrated against a mall in Janipur for misbehavior, arbitrariness and sale of substandard and almost expiring goods to customers.  Sahni said that complete information to the State Metrology and the concerned Food Inspector has been given, but no-one reached the spot.
Even their consumer support helpline does not work, he added.
Sahni said that claims are made about the protection of consumer rights.  There is even a provision for action against misleading advertisements.  “But in Jammu and Kashmir, the Consumer Protection Forum is only in the Court Complex at Janipur in Jammu and the Court Complex at Srinagar in Kashmir Valley.  The information of which is not even with the public, except for the above two districts, no Forum is active anywhere.
He said although under the law, there should be a Consumer Forum in every district of the State, but so far this Forum has been established only in files,” he added. Sahni appealed to the Lt Governor to take serious note of consumers’ problems and direct the authorities concerned for opening of consumer complaints centers in every district of the Jammu and Kashmir. On this occasion, complainant Deepak Kumar, Shiv Sena president Women’s Wing, Meenakshi Chhibber, general secretary, Vikas Bakshi, president Kamgar Raj Singh, vice president Vikas Divan, president Youth Wing, Binny Mahajan, Balbir Singh, Sumit Abrol, Rajesh Handa, Ghulam Rasool Lone, Amit Kumar  Pawan Singh were present.
