No OPD in Pulwama hospital: Govt

Srinagar, Aug 25: Subjecting people to inconvenience, the Government has failed to provide Out Patients’ Department (OPD) facility in Pulwama District Hospital.
This was admitted by Minister of Health and Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din in the Legislative Council while replying to a question of his party’s MLC Bashir Ahmad Margay.
The Minister, however, did not reply to Magray’s another question of providing such facility there. Magray said common people are being subjected to great inconvenience due the lack of the OPD facility.
In a separate question of PDP Legislator Mohammad Khalil Band about the upgradation of health sub centers and primary health centers in the district, the Minister said that as per population norms the health centers could not be upgraded.
Band had asked about the upgradation of Kuil, Ratnipora, Reshipora-Awlar and Chakoora sub-centers into primary health centers and PHC in Litter as sub district hospital.
Taj said as per the population norms adopted by Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS), 30,000 population is required for sanction of primary health center and one lakh population for sub district hospital.
“As per the criteria, sub-center Ratnipora, Ratnipora, Reshipora-Awlar and Chakoora do not qualify for upgradation as primary health centers. Similarly, PHCs in Litter, Wasoora, Panzgam, Gulzarpora, Parigam, Newa, and Lajoora do not qualify for upgradation as sub district hospital,” he said.
He, however, said a proposal for upgradation of sub-center Kuil to the PHC was submitted to the Planning and Development Department has not been approved.
