One militant killed, search operation going on in north Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A militant was killed as security forces launched a massive search operation near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, a defence ministry spokesperson said.
Colonel N N Joshi said operation was going on and body of a militant and one ak rifle has been recovered.     Giving details, he said the  Army and state police launched a joint operation near the LoC in the woods at Kanzimarg Bijbhama Uri in Baramulla district at 0700 hrs today following a tip off about the presence of militants there.
However, when the security forces were moving towards the particular area, the militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons and also hurled hand grenades.          Security forces also retaliated, ensuing a fierce encounter in which one militant was killed, Col Joshi said, adding that one ak rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered.
He said the  operation was going on in the dense woods against militants, if any, when reports last came in.          Additional security forces were rushed to the area and cordon was further tightened to foil any militant attempt to escape, he said. It was not immediately known whether the militants, trapped there, had infiltrated from across the LoC, where large number of trained ultras are waiting to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall.
