One injured, 1 arrested in group clash

RAMBAN, May 25: One person was injured, while one another has been arrested in group clash at Chanderkote on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
A large number of unemployed youth assembled near Panchayat Ghar in Chanderkote on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and held protest against Gammon India Construction Company, engaged for the construction of four-lane project from Nashri to Ramban.
Amid slogans, the protesting youth were demanding jobs in this project. They also tried to stop the vehicles of the said construction company and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), during which scuffle took place between protestors and workers engaged with construction company.
A youth identified as Mohammad Sadiq, a resident of Chanderkote came under the vehicle of the said construction company and was rushed to DH Ramban, from where he was later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu for advanced treatment.
During the clash, the shops remained shut and police detained a local contractor Firdous Ahmed, who took out his licenced pistol targeting the protestors.
The vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway also remained suspended for sometime.
Later, the meeting between the protestors and officials of the construction company and district administration at district headquarters Ramban could not bear fruitful results.
When contacted, SSP Ramban Mohan Lal said that a case under FIR Number 29/18 under Sections 307 RPC and 3/25 Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Chanderkote and investigation started.
Moreover during the course of investigation weapon and vehicle has been seized and accused person namely Firdous Ahmed has been arrested.
