SRINAGAR, Jan 8:
Hitting out at airlines for not rescheduling cancelled flights from Srinagar airport due to snowfall and refunding money to passengers without getting their consent, working president of National Conference (NC), the main opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah said passengers are forced to repurchase tickets at inflated prices.
“Snows cause flight cancellations and airlines refund money without asking thus forcing passengers to repurchase tickets at inflated prices,” Abdullah, former State Chief Minister, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
“Thus forcing people who had already spent 5-6000 on a ticket to spend 25-30,000. This is nothing but daylight robbery,” he said.
He further alleged that the tickets between Srinagar and Delhi are being offered by “low cost airlines” at between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000, while the highway remains closed.
Abdullah said the airlines should be forced to honour previous bookings when flights resume instead of getting away with refunding the original amount.
Meanwhile, Abdullah asked Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju to regulate the prices of tickets. “So Uber can’t use surge pricing but airlines can? How does this work exactly @Ashok_Gajapathi Sahib? This has to be regulated against!!!,” he added. (UNI)
