Omar flays Govt’s remarks on dredging

SRINAGAR, Apr 7:
Upping the ante at Government over its claims that the 2016 unrest was responsible for the delay in dredging Jhelum in the Valley, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today asked how it stopped the current regime from de-silting the waterbody, but not from spending crores of rupees in a handful of VVIP constituencies.
“So 2016 stopped the dredging but didn’t stop them spending crores & crores of (rupees) in a handful of VVIP constituencies. How convenient,” Abdullah, working president of the National Conference, wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Abdullah was reacting to a statement made by Minister of State for Flood Control Syed Farooq Andrabi that dredging was delayed in Jhelum and flood-spill channel due to the 2016 unrest that left over 100 people dead. (UNI)
