Old mortar shell recovered in border village, defused safely

SAMBA, May 31: An old mortar shell was recovered from a temple well in a border area of Samba district and later defused safely, officials said today.
The recovery was made from Gadwal village of Ramgarh border area, where locals found an old shell in well on the temple on Saturday, they said.
Acting on the information, locals police along with bomb disposal squad rushed to spot and defused the shell, they said.
Preliminary assessment suggested that the motor shell was quite old and may have been lying inside the well for nearly 30 to 35 years, they added.
No damage or injuries were reported in the incident.
