Old bridge at Ramban closed

JAMMU, Sept 6: Old cable bridge over river Chenab at Ramban was today closed for the movement of all types of vehicles after some cables of the bridge were damaged.
Official sources said that Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mussarat Islam in an order said that after receiving an advisory from Officer Commanding, 52 RCC (GREF), about some damage caused to the old Jhulla bridge over river Chenab, the movement of all kinds of vehicles on this bridge has been stopped.
Sources said that an `earth mover’ of a construction company involved in the widening of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway caused some damage to the cables of this Jhulla bridge. The movement of vehicles over it will pose great risk to the lives of the public. The movement of vehicles, even bikes towards Maitra/ new town has been diverted to main Karol/ Jaiswal bridge.
