HC issues notice in contempt proceedings against KU

Srinagar, Sept 6: Authorities of Kashmir University are in contempt proceedings as despite court directions the Law student has not been allowed to sit the 10th Semester Examinations and the court issued notice to the authorities for filing of their response.
The Law student Safiullah Shah of Srinagar has approached the court seeking that the KU authorities be directed to allow him in examinations.
The court after hearing his counsel and subject to objections from the KU directed that the student be permitted to appear in final examination of 10th Semester of LLB which was scheduled to be held recently at his own risk and responsibility.
The aggrieved student in the contempt proceedings against KU authorities including Registrar, Dean Academic Affairs, Controller Examination and Chief Proctor of KU submits that he has served the court order upon all these authorities and he as per the court directions caused his appearance at the examination hall but he was not allowed to enter the examination hall on the scheduled date.
Justice Sanjeev Kumar issued notice in the contempt petition to all the contemnors and sought reply from them within two weeks with regard to court directions whereby the authorities of the University were directed to permit the student to appear in the examinations.
It has been contended in the contempt petition that the act and conduct of the authorities is demonstrative of the arrogance and amounts to wilful and deliberate disobedience of the order and directions of the court for this authorities under contempt are to be proceeded as per the provision of contempt of Courts Act.
It has further been sought in the contempt proceedings that Robkar be framed against them and they be punished appropriately for having committed contempt of the court as also to put the academic career of the aggrieved student in lurch.
