Syllabus in 1st year of BSc courses to be uniform, no clinical rotation: GMC

Posts to be created for conducting various paramedical courses

SRINAGAR, Sept 6: Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar is going to formulate a proposal for the creation of posts for the conduct of various B.Sc. Paramedical Courses at the institutions while the syllabus for the First Year in all the courses are going to be uniform without any Clinical Rotation.
The decision, apart from several other key decisions in this regard, has been taken during a meeting that was held concerning the B.Sc. Paramedical Courses under the chairpersonship of Principal GMC, Srinagar, Dr. Samia Rashid.
During the meeting, it has been decided that there should be a uniform syllabus for all courses in First Year and that the syllabus, if the need arises, may be modified by the concerned HoD. It has also been unanimously decided that there will be only theory and practical teaching in 1st Year and no Clinical Rotation.
The meeting held was attended by HoDs, Deputy Registrar Academics, and representatives of the Department of Anatomy Microbiology, Physiology, Pathology, Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurology, Nephrology, Radiotherapy, Radiology, Respiratory Medicine, and Pharmacology.
It was also unanimously decided that all the theory classes will be conducted at the upcoming new building of Govt. Nursing College, while the Practical for the 1st year shall be arranged by the concerned HoDs as per Departmental Feasibility.
At the same time, it was also finalized that the Planning Section will chalk out a proposal for the creation of posts to carry out the courses such as B.Sc. Anaesthesia, Cardiac Care, Medical Lab Technology, Neuro Sciences, Operation Theatre, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Radiotherapy, Renal Dialysis, and Respiratory Care Technology.
Further, both the theory as well as the practicals will be assessed by internal and external examiners, while the concerned HoDs have been directed to forward a panel of external examiners to the Dean of Allied Medical Sciences for conducting practical examinations.
It has been noted and decided during the meeting that the students will be given access to the existing library of Nursing College, Shireen Bagh. At the same time, all the concerned HoDs will submit a list of books for the students while those books will be kept in the concerned departmental library.
Concerning the accommodation for the students opting for various B.Sc. courses, it has been decided that the same cannot be provided at present.
“It was unanimously decided that the accommodation for the students is not possible at this stage for which an affidavit shall be obtained from the students duly attested by Judicial Magistrate at the time of admission,” read the minutes of the meeting
It was also suggested by the HoDs who were present in the meeting that the night roster of students of the Department of Anaesthesia should be optional while as for the Theory, Practical teaching of 2nd year, the roster will be drafted by the concerned HoDs.
