BHUBNESHWAR, Jan 14: Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi in collaboration with East Zone Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Odisha Tourism and Odisha Natya Sangha organized National Contemporary Theatre Festival here today.
During inaugural ceremony, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi honoured Director Natrang and former Secretary of J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages, Balwant Thakur, for his outstanding contribution to enrichment of contemporary Indian Theatre.
Shard Pujari, president of Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi in presence of Ashok Kumar Tripathi, Principal Secretary Tourism and Culture, Government of Odisha and Chita Ranjan Mallia, Secretary Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi honoured Balwant Thakur at the famous Rabindra Rangmandap, Bhubneshwar before top intellectuals, writers, artists, performers and cultural activists of Southern States of India.
Born in 1960, Balwant Thakur is one of the most creative theatre Directors of the country who have given a new identity to Indian theatre with their highly innovative theatre productions.
Known as a magic man of theatre, his outstanding visual poetics on stage like “Ghumayee”, “Bawa Jitto”, “Suno Eh Kahani”, “Chauraha” and “Mahabhoj” have vibrated the theatre scene of North India.
