JAMMU, Dec 10: A delegation of All J&K OBC Mahasabha called on Lieutenant Governor of J&K UT, Girish Chandra Murmu here today and projected the issues of the OBC community in Jammu and Kashmir.
The delegation led by its chairman, Kasturi Lal Basotra, and accompanied by other members including, Bansi Lal Choudhary (convener), Ghulam Hssan Sheer (President, Kashmir Unit), Mohd Shabir, Mohan Lal Pawar (gen secy), Sain Dass and Vishal Choudhary, during meeting discussed various issues of the OBC category and sought intervention of the Lt Governor.
They projected that OBC members have not been provided justice by the Central Government even after creation of Union Territory. They said for the long time, the OBCs are fighting for their rights. They have been deprived of the Mandal Commission recommendations in J&K so far.
They said OBCs who are socially and educationally backward in the Jammu and Kashmir, be accorded justice without any more delay. They claimed that there were 32% OBCs in J&K but still all deprived of the real reservation benefits.
They also demanded political reservation for the community. They said the previous Governments in the erstwhile J&K, in violation court directives, failed to implement Mandal Commission Report. The previous governments set up several committees and commissions for Backward Classes but they are still struggling for justice.
They demanded restoration of Backward Classes Commission Act of 1995 or 1997 so that BCs Commission is headed by a retired or sitting judge instead of Executive officers. They hoped that with the restoration of single constitution for the entire country now, the OBCs in J&K UT will get due justice.
