JAMMU, Mar 12: All J&K OBC Mahasabha and All India Backward Classes Federation (AIBCF), New Delhi projected their demands in a joint press conference held, here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Bansi Lal Choudhary (convener, All J&K OBC Mahasabha) said that nomenclature of “Other Social Castes” (OSC) for other Backward Class (OBC) is unconstitutional and it should be replaced with Other Backward Classes (OBC) so that there is parity at National level.
He further criticized the J&K Government for multiple reservations to the General Category on the name of Backward area (RBA=10%), Line of Control (ALC=4%) and Pahari speaking (PSP=4%) totaling 18%, in addition to their own quota of 10%, under Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
Hans Raj Jangid, president AIBCF New Delhi said that Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Commission (SEBCC) constituted one year ago to settle the issue of OBC reservation in J&K UT had to submit its report within three months but the Commission did not submit its report even after availing double of the time allotted to it. He appealed the SEBCC to release its recommendations immediately so that decade long deprivation of OBC people comes to an end.

“When Article 370 has come to an end, continuance of OBC reservation Act 2004 and its amendment dated 20-4-2020, in J&K UT is unconstitutional and it should be immediately be repealed and Central Reservation Policy should be implemented,” Jangid said and asserted that as OBC population in J&K UT is more than 27% (as per census of 1931), they should be provided 27% reservation in proportion to their population at par with other UTs of the country.
He further demanded that in the National Census of 2021, column for OBC community should be inserted which will go a long way to frame policies for welfare of these castes.
