BUDGAM, Mar 12: RTI Movement has demanded action against the officials of Irrigation Department who allowed to undertake the de-silting without keeping lorries on the site to lift the waste and silt excavated from an irrigation canal on the Srinagar -Chadoora road around Gopalpora, Kralpora areas of Budgam.
The excavated waste and silt are dumped on the roadside and RTI Movement has appealed to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Secretary Jal Shakti and Chief Engineer Irrigation to intervene.
In a statement, Chairman RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that the Irrigation Department has dumped waste material and silt on the roadside at several spots in Goplapora and Kralpora near Petrol Pump which is causing serious inconvenience to the locals and commuters. The continuous rainfall from the last 3 days has further aggravated the problem and this will result in dusty roads when the weather becomes dry, he added.
“The work should have been done in October or November when the water level is very low in the canals plus weather remains dry as well. But Irrigation Officials took up the work some days back knowing that there was a forecast of rain for a week. I appeal Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Secretary Jal Shakti and Chief Engineer Irrigation Kashmir to intervene. The waste should be lifted immediately and action be taken against the engineers who gave consent to carry out the work during rainfall” said Dr Raja Muzaffar.
