JAMMU, Dec 19: Comme-nting upon the decision of the Government to hold screening test for ReTs as a measure of reform, Harshdev Singh, Chairman, JKNPP and Former Minister today said that a beginning must be made from the Ministers by fixing minimum education qualification for them for holding such positions.
Singh said this while addressing public meetings in villages Taintha, Jandror, Nala-Mallia, Chowki, Panjgrain in Ramnagar constituency.
Accusing the Government of harassing the ReTs in particular, he observed that the Government must remember that the said category of teachers had played a very significant role in operationalization of several defunct schools in various rural and remote areas of the State.
He said that ReTs rendered their services in the most difficult areas where regular establishment had indicated its reluctance and ensured diversification of education to the remotest corners of the State. Singh added that ReTs not only catered to the problem of staff deficiency in the inaccessible areas but also helped raise the literacy level in the State.
Seeking the release of the pending salary of ReTs, Harshdev Singh further called for framing of a suitable transfer policy for them in consonance with the directions of the High Court.
Singh lamented the release of compensation in favour of NOKs of Burhan Wani, adding that the novice Ministers of BJP failed to realize the ramifications of the highly obnoxious move of their coalition partner that could negate and nullify all peace initiatives launched in the State in the past.
On the local issues, Singh expressed grave concern over the acute shortage of ration in the area and failure of the Government to take cognizance of large scale irregularities being committed in public distribution system.
He called upon the Government to meet the staff deficiency in rural area schools at the earliest. He assured the public to rake up the issues of dilapidated roads, defunct water supply schemes and erratic power supply at the appropriate forums.
Among others, who addressed the gatherings included Dev Singh, Sagar Dev, Pushpinder, Bishan Dass, Govind Ram, Vipin Sharma, Mohan Lal, Sushil Sharma, Ram Krishan, Charan Dass, Sunil Singh, Jasbir Singh and Jagdev Singh.
