UDHAMPUR, Mar 27: National Panthers Party (NPP) workers held protest over increase in power tariff in the district.
The activists of NPP assembled at Dhar Road and burnt the effigy of Dr Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the portfolio of Power Ministry. The protestors alleged that coalition Government hiked the power tariff by three to four times in the district Udhampur.
Joginder Sharma, Sarpanch and leader NPP accused the BJP led coalition Government of increasing the power tariff in the Udhampur district.
Sharma said that earlier the people belonging to poor families were paying Rs 110 per month power tariff but after the formation of BJP-PDP Government, the tariff has been increased four times by Power Department.
There is also resentment among the people living in villages over purchase of meters, he added.
He added that NPP will continue struggle till the Government rolls back its decision of charging higher tariff from the people of district Udhampur.
Later, Balwant Singh Mankotia, State president, NPP reached the spot and assured the protestors that he will take up the matter with concered authorities for redressal.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed.
