GVK Ltd suspends work on Rattle Hydel project

JAMMU, Mar 27: Despite protests by the Opposition in the Legislature, the State Government today said that it would work with the Union Government to explore modalities for the transfer of Dulhasti and Uri Hydel Power projects from NHPC.
In a written reply to the question of NC Member Sajjad Kichloo in the Upper House today, the Dy Chief Minister (Incharge Power) said that the State Government will work with the Union Government to explore modalities for transfer of Dulhasti and Uri Hydro Power projects to J&K.
Referring to the Hydel Power Projects taken up in Doda-Kishtwar region, the Government said 390 MW Kirthai-I, 930 MW Kithai-II, 48 MW Lower Kalnai in Kishtwar over Chenab have been taken up under State Sector. 1200 MW Burser Power project over Chenab has been taken up under Central sector and its DPR is being prepared by NHPC.
660 MW Kiru Hydel Project, 560 MW Kawar project and 1000 MW Pakal Dul over Chenab basin have been taken up in joint venture between JKSPDC, NHPC and PTC.
While responding to the reply regarding suspension of work on 850 MW capacity Rattle hydel power project, the Dy Chief Minister said that PPA was signed with M/s GVK Developmental Projects Ltd in June 2010 and the work was started. But the firm suspended work on July 11, 2014 due to some law and order problem. The agency has been given notice to resume work, he added.
The Government further said that for Pakkal Dul tenders have been invited and bidding process was in progress whereas, pre-qualification bids have been invited for 390 MW Kirthai-I and 660 MW Kiru projects.
