JAMMU, Nov 2: Bishnah police nabbed a notorious thief within three hours and recovered stolen car, gold ornaments and pistol from his possession.
As per police spokesman, yesterday at around 2235 hours, a complaint was lodged by Gourav Sharma (23), son of Romesh Chander of Banglar, District Samba with police station Bishnah stating that he had gone to his maternal uncle’s house to attend a marriage function at Bishnah in his Chevrolet Cruze bearing registration number JK21C-1525, which was decorated for the groom.
“All the wedding guests and groom entered the marriage hall at Bishnah and when I was sitting in the car, a person namely Pankaj Singh alias Panku (24), son of Gopal Singh of Kotli Mian Fateh, Miran Sahib who was known to me came, opened the left window of the vehicle and pointed a pistol on my forehead. He threatened me to get out of the vehicle and after that he fled away from the spot alongwith the vehicle and gold ornaments which were kept inside the vehicle”, the complainant added.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 160/16 under Section 382 RPC and 3/25 Arms Act got registered at police station Bishnah and hunt was launched to nab the accused, police spokesman added.
“During the course of investigation, a team from Bishnah police station spotted the Chevrolet Cruze near village Banachak, Ratnal Road at about 0030 hours. On seeing police cops, the accused fled away from the spot. When the cops chased him, the accused failed to control the stolen vehicle and it plunged into canal”, he added.
The accused was arrested, he said, adding that stolen car, gold ornaments and a pistol were seized from his possession.
The accused is a hard core criminal and is already involved in number of heinous crimes, police spokesman said, adding that his dossier will be shortly submitted for his detention under PSA for maintaining peace and law and order in the area.
Police team led by SHO Bishnah Inspector Paramjit Singh made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura Surinder Kumar and SP Headquarters RC Kotwal.
