JAMMU, Feb 23: The normal work in all the LIC offices remained affected due to strike and protest dharna by the Insurance employees mostly from Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India across the region today.
A large number of employees of the LIC led by Divisional secretary Pawan Gupta and Joint secretary Romesh Chand assembled at Press Club and held protest demonstration for about two hours in support of their demand of settlement of wage revision, pending since long. In Srinagar AM Tantray, president of the Northern Zone Insurance Employees Association was leading the protest/ strike.
The work in all the LIC offices and also in the district units remained affected with the strike of the employees as all the class-III and Class IV employees struck work in support of their pending demands. Besides wages revision they are also demanding one more option for pension to the employees of the Corporation and immediate recruitment in the Industry.
While speaking on the occasion Pawan Gupta lambasted the management of the LIC for not resolving the pending issues of the Corporation employees. He said the LIC employees are deeply disappointed with the attitude of the LIC management during discussion at Central office, Mumbai on February 12, 2015. The offer given stood at 12.5 % which was the same as earlier. He alleged that rigid attitude of the management has made the employees to resume the agitation till it reaches the logical conclusion. Mr Gupta said that LIC must come out with adequate offer to solve the issue.
Dileep Koul, led the protest by General Insurance Employees Union during lunch hour in Jammu in support of the same demand.
The strike was also observed at Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, R S Pura, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Srinagar, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama and Sopore offices of the LIC.
