JAMMU, June 4: Expressing his displeasure over the attitude of the district administrations with the general public in Jammu and Kashmir, Shafiq Mir, chairman All J&K Panchayat Conference said that there is no connection between the administration and public due to which the people are facing problems and hardships saying that this gap has been created deliberately by the Government officials in the name of “social distancing”.
In a press statement today, Mir said the aim and objective of keeping people at distance is not only the prevention from Corona but to prevent themselves from the transparency which the general public wants in Government affairs.
Alleging that most of the Deputy Commissioners have shut their office doors and were not meeting to the people in the name of Corona and `social distancing’. Same is the story of their subordinate offices in each district. There is no mechanism how to connect with the people to address their problems . “No body responds the `so called’ phone numbers notified by the administration”, Shafiq Mir said adding that due to the absence of proper mechanism to connect with the people, a middle men mafia has come into operation which is connected with some officials in the districts and mints money for little genuine issues.
Mir who is heading the Panchayats organization in Jammu and Kashmir and is also an elected Block Development Council chairman said that even elected BDC chairpersons were not being entertained and contacted by the administration in connection with the problems being faced by the common people whom they represent.
” At present Jammu and Kashmir has only elected institution and that is Panchayats. even the Panchayat leaders were not being listened by the UT administration. How public can be heard. We are feeling dejected and cheated after contesting these elections. If we can not serve the people at this hour of the need what is the fun of becoming chairman and Sarpanch,” Mir asked.
Expressing apprehension of large scale bungling in Corona related expenditures particularly in the establishment of quarantine centers and distribution of masks by the district administrations, Mir said an `Inquiry Commission’ should be constituted immediately to know from the people that how many face masks have been issued to the people in rural areas by the administration and how much money have been spent for establishing and running the quarantine centers.
