KATHUA, June 7: There seems to be no `care-takers’ of the Dyalachak-Chhallan road, leading to Billawar as for the last several years, no repair work has been done on this stretch causing a lot of inconvenience to the operators and the passengers.
Neither R&B nor GREF authorities own this road which is hardly 26 km in length and connects Jammu- Pathankote National Highway with Dhar Road through Dinga Amb and Galak. The condition of the road is worst and hundreds of heavy vehicles/ trucks operating between Srinagar and Delhi are using this road as shortest route `illegally’. It has no double road specifications and the Traffic Police authorities did not object the plying of heavy trucks on it.
The addition burden of heavy traffic is also another reason of worst condition of this road. Large patholes have developed and surfaces broken. The sides on both sides of this single road have gone down by at least one foot causing maximum chances of accidents and overturning of the loaded passenger and other vehicles. Unfortunately, both the agencies have turned Nelson’s eye towards the issue.
Chief Engineer R&B Jammu T. Mustafa when contacted said that the road is being handed over to GREF and therefore, they did not undertake the repair/ maintenance work. The GREF authorities however, maintained that the road was lying with the R&B and it was their responsibility to go for repair work. Under such circumstances, this road is like an orphan ‘baby’ of the State.
