No flight takes off from Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 24:  The dense fog disrupted air traffic for second consecutive day today with no flights taking off from Srinagar Airport after two Indian Airlines flights landed here this afternoon despite poor visibility.
People woke up to a dense foggy cold morning here for second consecutive day today. The fog affected the flow of the traffic as it was very slow with majority of the motorists preferring to stay in doors to avoid accidents.
The visibility was hardly few feet and it forced the Airport Authority of India to cancel all in and out going flights in the morning. However, two flights one each from Jammu and Delhi of Indian Airlines landed at Srinagar Airport despite poor visibility but they later failed to take off.
All flights to and from the Valley were cancelled yesterday due to intense fog. The officials said that 24 flights were cancelled yesterday and today.
The officials said the Banihal-Baramulla train services also remained suspended today not only due to fog but also law and order problem in south Kashmir.
Director Metrological department, Sonam Lotus, said that intense morning fog is likely to continue tomorrow as well. “We are expecting a Western Disturbance (WD) on November 26 and November 27. Foggy weather conditions will end due to light rain expected on November 26 and 27”, he added.
Traffic department officials have issued advisories to travelers on Srinagar-Jammu national highway and other roads that have heavy traffic to exercise extreme caution to avoid accidents.
A MeT official said the minimum temperature in Srinagar city was 0.9 degrees Celsius today. He said that it was 1.1 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam, -2.6 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg, – 6.4 degrees Celsius in Kargil, – 5.8 degrees Celsius in Leh, 9.9 degrees Celsius in Jammu, 6.6 degrees Celsius in Batote, 1.0 degrees Celsius in Banihal, 2.8 degrees Celsius in Bhaderwah and 1.8 degrees Celsius in Katra town today.
