JAMMU : Countering BJP’s demand of holding early Parliamentary elections, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad today out-rightly rejected it and said no question arises of holding parliamentary elections before scheduled time.
“No early elections at any cost,” Mr Azad told reporters at a press conference here this afternoon.
The Union Minister along with All India Congress Committee general secretary Ambika Soni was here in the town to address a day-long Congress convention.
“Elections will be held on scheduled time. Neither a day earlier nor a day later,” said Mr Azad.
BJP had called for early parliamentary elections to end what it said was the present atmosphere of ‘uncertainty’ in the country.
Meanwhile on opposing Zubin Mehta’s September 9 concert in Kashmir by the separatists, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said, “though I am not the representative of state government but the government should not bow down to the section of society and carry on with whatever they have decided to do.”
On a question regarding distribution of relief to the victims of August 9 Kishtwar violence, Mr Azad said, “a team of ministers recently visited the town and met a section of people from both the communities.”
“Government will provide all help and relief to the victims,” he said, adding that report has been submitted to the state government and he would take up the matter of ‘immediate relief’ to the victims with the state government. (agencies)
