BUDGAM, Jan 30: The J&K RTI Movement has demanded a Medical Officer at New Type Primary Health Center (NT-PHC) at Chalyan village in Charar Sharief.
In a statement chairman RTI Movement said their delegation visited the area and found that NT-PHC was operating from two dilapidated rooms while a new building is under construction for the last 8 years.
“No Medical Officer is available at the NT-PHC which was created as an allopathic dispensary in 1969. The NT-PHC was upgraded from allopathic dispensary and the contractor has abandoned the work on the new PHC building as funds were not released to him by the concerned authorities. People suffer a lot in the absence of basic health services,” he maintained adding that the Chief Medical Officer told him there is no post of Medical Officer at the PHC.
“We request Director Health and CMO Budgam to send doctor to Chalyan at least for 3 days a week until full-fledged post of Medical Officer is sanctioned for the PHC,” said Dr Raja Muzaffar.
“For simple medical emergencies people have to visit Charar Sharief which is 20 km away from Chalyan,” he claimed adding that locals are poor and they can’t be deprived of an MBBS doctor when the government has appointed 1000 new Medical Officers only last year.
