Nirav Modi found by London-based newspaper, not PM Modi and his agencies: Omar

SRINAGAR: Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly crediting Narendra Modi for the arrest of billionaire diamond tycoon Nirav Modi, the fugitive jeweller wanted in the Rs 13,000-crore Punjab National Bank scam, former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah said it was London-based newspaper that found him, not the Prime Minister and his agencies.

“It’s amusing to see the BJP falling over itself to credit the PM with the Nirav Modi arrest while completely ignoring the fact that it was The Telegraph of London & it’s correspondent who found Nirav Modi, not the PM & his agencies,” Mr Abdullah, who is the vice president of National Conference (NC), wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

Mr Abdullah said it takes a special kind of hubris to roam around Oxford Street without a care in the world the way Nirav Modi was. “It’s no wonder it caught up with him,” he added.
