As per the local officials and eyewitnesses, the NIA sleuths conducted raid at the residence of Mohammad Zaman son of Ghulam Ahmed at village Danna Chak Gagrian in Mandi area of Poonch district with the onset of dawn today and searched his house thoroughly.
The raid was connected to terror funding, they said.
There were reports that Mohammad Zamaan had established contacts in Pakistan after visiting there on regular visa through Wagah border in Amritsar district of Punjab some time back. His sister is also settled in Pakistan occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK).
“After his return from Pakistan, he was under radar of the NIA as well as State Investigation Agency (SIA) as he continued to talk to Pakistan with persons of doubtful integrity. Later, it was confirmed that he was regularly in touch with terror suspects in Pakistan who wanted him to carry out certain activities as he was living very close to the Line of Control (LoC),” the officials said.
While two mobile telephones and some documents are reported to have been seized by the NIA, the officials said Mohammad Zaman had broken one mobile phone on which he used to talk to terror suspects in Pakistan. However, as per the officials, the agency will try to extract Call Detail Records of the mobile telephone to ascertain names of his contacts in Pakistan.
Few days back, an SIA team had also questioned Mohammad Zaman, the officials said, adding he was on radar of both NIA and SIA. Besides, local police was also keeping strict vigil on him and his activities were suspicious for all the agencies, which finally led to the NIA raid on him.
After search of his house, the NIA team shifted Mohammad Zaman to Mandi Police Station where he was questioned for three to four hours.
The officials said the mobile telephones seized by the NIA from the residence of Mohammad Zaman could give the agency some vital data about his contacts in Pakistan.
It may be mentioned here that Pakistan’s Intelligence agencies and militant commanders operating from Pakistan and PoJK have been trying to win over the persons who have relations across LoC and International Border and those who live close to the Line of Control to engage them in terror funding.
However, the Indian agencies are on high alert and keep tracking activities of all such persons.
“Many terror funding cases have been worked out by taking into custody the persons putting up close to the Line of Control or those who have relations in Pakistan and PoJK,” the officials said.
